The work that forces your team to scramble often isn't the work that grows your firm. The client who needs to restate the last three months of revenue, the new client with two years of messy catch up work, the receipt triage, the reallocation, the forensics. The list could go on and on.
These are the tasks that take hours and limit the firm’s capacity. They pull your senior accountants off strategic work and stretch the team thin. For small firms, this kind of work takes you away from your family and forces you into overtime.
Today, we're introducing Meridian AI, built directly into the Meridian platform. It handles the complex, one-off tasks that would typically steal hours of your time. (So that your team can work on something else).
What is Meridian AI?
Meridian AI is a super agent that you can delegate accounting work to. Describe the work you want it to do, give it the files and documents it needs to complete it, and it’ll do it in the same way a staff accountant would. It uses the context within your GL about your firm’s processes and preferences of each client so that the work is done right.
Meridian AI has full access to your client books, The Close checklist, your reconciliations, your supporting schedules, and your historical close data. It can use contexts from prior journal entries for a given client and use that as a reference point for how the work should be done.
And if something's off, it won't just guess. It will always look to your team’s expertise to clarify any gaps it has that would prevent it from doing the work.
Meridian AI can handle any task you give it within the books: answer questions about your data, take on complex schedules, process uploaded files. The guardrails are already built in to keep everything valid, which is what makes it more powerful than just running a prompt through a traditional model.
What can you do with Meridian AI?
Every so often, a one-off project, a rogue client request, or an unexpected messy onboarding cleanup comes along that nobody at the firm has time to tackle. Meridian AI is built to handle this type of complex work, saving the firm hours (sometimes even days).
Tell it what you're trying to accomplish, giving it the data, the files, and the context. It can classify, reconcile, extract data, convert, and log entries into the ledger, and anything else you need it to do.
Here are some actual examples from its users:
Reallocating months of transactions in minutes
“I have a client who keeps changing the way they want to allocate expenses across departments. Before Meridian, I’d have to go back and manually update months of numbers, dig through spreadsheets, re-classify entries, and make sure I didn’t miss anything. It was the kind of work that eats up an entire day.
Now with Meridian AI, the client tells me they’ve changed their mind and I let Meridian AI know. Instead of taking me hours, it reruns the numbers within minutes, which was completely unheard of pre-Meridian.”
— Ashley Schagrin, Chief of Staff
Two years of client onboarding cleanup done overnight
“I onboarded a client that we needed to do their 2024 through May 2026 books. You're dealing with 30+ months of books that you're having to catch up on and thousands of transactions to reconcile. That would usually take me days to go month by month. I put it in Meridian AI, plugged in my computer, and went to sleep. I woke up and it actually did everything. It probably worked most of the night, but the fact that I was able to do all that work while I was asleep is pretty cool.”
— Ben Kocher, Accountant
Processing and categorizing 800 receipts in hours
“A business provided a zip file with a bunch of folders with nearly 800 receipts covering a year of expenses paid from several owners' personal accounts. Manually, the job would have meant extracting data into spreadsheets, finding duplicates, converting foreign-currency transactions, and then booking the reimbursements correctly.
I instead just gave the folders to Meridian AI with the instruction to triage what was in them and book the liabilities appropriately. A few hours later, the system had extracted the receipts, identified a bunch of duplicates, converted the foreign-currency activity, and booked the expenses through liability accounts for the appropriate owners. The books were ready to review.”
— Jessica McKellar, Firm owner/CEO
What makes Meridian AI different?
Many general AI tools (like Claude or ChatGPT) provide read-only connectors that don't have built-in access to make changes to your GL nor do they have the full context of your firm’s configurations. To get completed work, you also need to continually go back into the interface of these tools as it asks for permission (and who has time to babysit AI?).
When you compare it to similar tools, Meridian AI is far easier to use out of the box because we’ve built it around nearly 200k month-end closes across nine years. Other "agentic" solutions have essentially put accounting wrappers on general LLMs.
Meridian doesn’t require a team of implementation engineers or months of closes to see value. It doesn't require deep technical expertise to build, test, or deploy new skills. The intelligence is built into Meridian AI from day 1 and you see value in your very first month.
The biggest difference between Meridian AI and the other tools out there is the depth of the context these tools are built on. Meridian AI was built inside an accounting firm (Pilot) and has the context of nearly a decade of bookkeeping work, giving it a rich starting point as it adapts to the preferences of your firm and your clients’ books.
